It's not like anyting will happen, Mom...

I'm an overprotective mom, and I'm ok with that.

I honestly have to say that I hate it when Avery is out bike riding with his friends, but I understand that he deserves the same kind of freedoms that I had as a child, and also deserves trust on some level from his Mom.
As any good Mom, I am constantly on him about his helmet, and as any "tweener" he's always questioning me as to why. I usually answer with the typical "because it's the law" but I most certanly have explained to him how important his brain is, and that it is my worst fear that something is going to happen to him while he's out and about....often not paying attention to what is really going on around him.

It was 5pm on a Friday night. Avery and his friend were out riding around our neiborhood, and the sun was going to go down soon, so being the overprotective Mom that I am, I called them home so that they were home before dark.
Not 20 minutes later, Avery calls....
MOM! I GOT HIT!!! THEY'RE CALLING 911!
My heart sunk. I quickly asked if he was ok, (which he answered yes) then grabbed Mike and Evan and drove the 2 blocks to where he was. Longest 2 blocks of my life!
When we arived, I did what every Mom would do....felt him from head to toe, making sure nothing was broken. Thankfully, he was fine, aside from a skined up elbow

What happened? Well, from what I understand, Avery's friend crossed the street (at a 4 way stop) infront of the vehicle that stopped for him. Avery followed right behind him, and apparently nobody made eye contact, and the driver didn't realize that Avery was crossing as well. So he started to go and boom. Hit Avery.
The police consider this a misunderstanding of both parties.
I consider this my worst fear come true, just not as bad as it could have been.
Avery may consider this a painful life lesson, but now understands why his Mom is so overprotective. Not only because I love him, but also because something really could happen.

Back in touch

So, here I sit, phone in hand, happy to be back to my blog. It's amazing what lack of technology will do to a girl. I didn't even know I needed it, or that I would miss it untill it was gone. Since December, it seems like I've done nothing but think about what I would blog about, but now all of those things have been forgotten. Oh well. I guess I'm just glad to be back in touch.
